In Memory of Nelson Mandela

What a remarkable human being he spent 27 year in jail for attempting to overthrow South Africa's apartheid regime.  He later became President of South Africa., Nobel Peace Prize recipient and Aids activist. He worked endlessly to improve the relations between black and white.

One of my favorite pastimes is thrift store shopping. I mainly thrift at the Salvation army on Wednesdays – they offer 50% off everything.  The clothes are priced by color and on Wednesdays they designate one color that is not part of the half off day. The thrifting fairy was in my favor this time, everything I bought was 50% off.  Here's what I got.

I first heard this phrase on the Steve Harvey Morning Show and I haven't been able to get out of my head.  Basically if you really want something you'll go out of your way to achieve it. Steve Harvey gives the following example:  if you want to lose weight but you hate going to the gym when its crowded. If you're really committed to looking and feeling your best you will be at the gym 5 o'clock in the morning or whenever the doors open.  Often we put off doing things and make excuses why we can't, if you really want something you will find a way to achieve your goal.  Remember there is no traffic on the extra mile.

I believe Steve Harvey got this phrase from a  book by Rickey Minor (music director of American Idol).
